El programa Contínuum quiere poner en relación y en continuidad destacadas propuestas musicales actuales con una serie de obras del siglo pasado que, en cierto modo, anticipan algunos de sus aspectos esenciales. Cada sesión del ciclo consistirá en un continuum musical sin pausas en el que los músicos participantes intercalarán o incluso, según el caso, superpondrán su música, creando un diálogo de naturaleza trans-estilística y trans-histórica.
John Tilbury (piano) tocará composiciones de Frederic Mompou, Howard Skempton, Christian Wolff y sus proprias piezas como parte del programa continuo en el MACBA. Los conciertos tendrán lugar en el espacio único que es el atrio del Museo.
John Tilbury es reconocido por su interpretación sin igual de la música de piano de Morton Feldman, John Cage, Christian Wolff y Howard Skempton y desde 1980 ha sido miembro del grupo de improvisación libre AMM.
Además de las actuaciones y grabaciones seminales que ha hecho de las obras de estos compositores, ha sido un defensor elocuente de su música. Lo mismo puede decirse de la atención que ha prestado a la música y las ideas de Cornelius Cardew, el tema de su biografía autorizada publicada en 2008, y con quien tocó en los legendarios grupos de improvisación la Scratch Orchestra y AMM. En los últimos diez años, John Tilbury ha realizado una serie de obras de teatro y prosas de Samuel Beckett.
The Continuum program wants to connect outstanding current musical offerings with a series of works from the last century, which show how they anticipated some of its essential aspects. Each session will consist of a ceaseless musical continuum in which the participating musicians interspersed or, as appropriate, overlap music, creating a trans-stylistic and trans-historic dialogue.
John Tilbury (piano) will be playing compositions by Frederic Mompou, Howard Skempton, Christian Wolff and his compositions as part of the Continuum programme at the MACBA. The concerts will be taking place in the unique space which is the atrium of the Museum. John Tilbury is renowned for his peerless interpretation of the piano music of Morton Feldman, John Cage, Christian Wolff and Howard Skempton and since 1980 has been a member of the free improvisation group AMM.
In addition to the performances and seminal recordings that he has made of these composers’ works, he has been an eloquent advocate of their music in his writing and speaking about them. The same is true of the attention he has paid to the music and ideas of Cornelius Cardew, the subject of his authoritative biography published in 2008, and with whom he played in the legendary improvisation groups the Scratch Orchestra and AMM. In the last ten years John Tilbury has performed a range of plays and prose pieces by Samuel Beckett.
